Computer Vision: When You Should See an Eye Doctor

With all the changes in the world over the last year and a vast shift toward working from home, it’s no surprise people are wondering about their eye health when it comes to computer use. Heavy screen time can put a lot of strain on your eyes, but this issue isn’t new. It’s been impacting eye health for many years, and Urias Eyecare in Texas can help.

As a full-service eye doctor serving Midland, Odessa, and Andrews, we’ve seen firsthand how excessive screen use can put a strain on your eyes and lead to computer vision syndrome.

Computer Vision

Computer vision is a relatively new term in the eye care world. It is also known as digital eye strain. Over the last several years, and especially since the vast increase in people working from home, long hours in front of a computer screen and other types of screens have led to various eye care concerns. Symptoms of eye strain can include headaches, blurry vision, dry eyes, eye fatigue, and general eye discomfort.

Blue Light Eyeglasses

While none of these issues mean that you need traditional corrective eyeglasses, other types of eyeglasses may be helpful when working on a computer. Specifically, blue light lenses are specially designed to filter out harmful blue light from computer screens and they may be key in preventing screens from damaging your eyes and reducing eye strain.

While blue light filters can be helpful, they may not alleviate all of your symptoms. Consulting an eye doctor is the only way to thoroughly assess eye strain from computer vision. If you’re experiencing blurry vision, dry eyes, or eye fatigue, talk to an eye doctor as soon as possible.
