LASIK Surgery Co-Management with our Midland Optometrist
With many years of combined experience and a dedication to always providing the highest quality of care to our patients, our optometrist is proud to offer LASIK surgery co-management. This advanced surgery treatment is designed to reduce or eliminate astigmatism, nearsightedness, and farsightedness in eligible patients. Often referred to as laser vision surgery or refractive surgery, LASIK is a safe and effective vision correction option.
What Can I Expect from a LASIK Consultation?
Our eye care specialists begin your LASIK assessment by completing a comprehensive eye exam and discussing your eye health history. From there, several measurements will help to determine whether or not you are a good candidate for the surgery. These include:
- Your lid structure
- Tear film
- Ocular surface contour and thickness
- Current prescription/ refractive error
If our eye doctor believes you are a good candidate for the procedure, we will then refer you to a LASIK surgery center. Additional diagnostic testing will need to be completed at the surgery center to confirm your eligibility and from there, various surgery options will be discussed.
Pre-Operative Care and Co-Management
To help you feel more comfortable and ensure you are receiving the best care possible, we are happy to complete your pre and post-operative care in our offices. We will take some final measurements of your eyes and educate you on what to expect on surgery day and beyond.
Post-operative care will depend on your individual needs and the type of surgery completed. Most often, we see patients the day after surgery to review your aftercare instructions and evaluate the health of your eyes. Additional checkups are typically scheduled at day 4, one month after surgery, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year.
After LASIK surgery it is still important for patients to keep up with their annual eye health and vision exams. Even though your vision issues have been corrected with surgery, you are still at risk for developing common eye conditions and diseases like glaucoma, macular degeneration, and cataracts.
